Twm
Siôn Cati is a fascinating character straight from the Welsh
history books of Tudor times.
The
Tale of Twm Siôn Cati tells the story of a Welshman
born in a time of lawlessness and disorder, poverty and unrest.
In this story, the Squire, Jasper Tyler and Elias Richards, the
rich shopkeeper, support Henry VIII's attempts to impose law and
order in a wild and dangerous Wales. In these perilous times,
people were condemned for celebrating innocent customs like the
May Day festival and the Mari Lwyd. In a country where most people
were poor, men like Jasper Tyler and Elias Richards held the power
to wreak revenge on the innocent and get away with it. That is,
until Twm Siôn Cati, master of disguise and mimicry, found
ways of helping friends in need and teaching Jasper and Elias
a thing or two on the way
